SONOGRAFIE. LIMEN

Installation by Paolo Cavinato with sounds by Stefano Trevisi

Mantua, Tinelli of Palazzo Te

25 september – 19 december 2021

From 25 September to 19 December 2021, Palazzo Te host the third edition of the Sonografie project room, the research project conceived by Fondazione Palazzo Te with Maestro Leonardo Zunica that investigates the relationship between music and painting.

Sonografie 2021 presents to the public the installation Limen by Paolo Cavinato in dialogue with the sound environment of the composer Stefano Trevisi.

In recent years, Paolo Cavinato's artistic research has developed through various disciplines, using different techniques and languages, sometimes reaching the realization of large installations or the creation of small-format objects using photography or drawing or graphic or digital processing.

The exhibition designed for the spaces of the Sala dei Tinelli of Palazzo Te offers the viewer an amplified and multisensory aesthetic experience: welcomed in a dimly lit space, already from the threshold, we are attracted by luminous elements and captured by sounds that magically emerge both from the works on the wall and from the installations on the ground.

"There is an idea of staging in my work - says the artist - to be understood as the construction and organization of elements in space, a space that is arranged according to scenic criteria of figures such as objects or elements located within our vision. Here the point of view, the hierarchy of the elements and the symbolic meaning of their position are always important. On the other hand, we organize our everyday life by selecting and arranging things in time and space ".

The exhibition brings together four unpublished works: the three-dimensional luminous drawing Limen (2021) which presents itself as a vision, a fluctuating spectrum, strongly evanescent and impalpable; the wooden installation Lost (2015), exhibited for the first time in Italy after Shanghai and London, in which we find the dimension of the labyrinth; the luminous three-dimensional mandala Cosmo (2021) made with fluorocarbon threads starting from precise mathematical calculations; and the small sculpture Luce (2021) which refers to ghost architectures.

Over the years, Cavinato's research has followed different directions, but the elements concerning perspective, points of view, the exchange of glances and the relationship between finite and infinite recur as essential references. Music is also a repeated element that found expression in the precious collaboration with the composer Stefano Trevisi.

In Lost, the viewer is immersed in a cloud of dense spectral bands - multiple breaths of the surrounding space - whose materials come from extremely reverberated resonances of Chinese cowbells and gongs.

On the occasion of the one-man show at Palazzo Te, a catalog of the works of Paolo Cavinato will be published with texts by Stefano Baia Curioni, Fiorenza Bacciocchini and Davide Landoni, published by Edizioni Publi-Paolini with the support of the Fondazione Banca Agricola Mantovana, Ente Manifestazioni Rodigo and the gallery The Flat - Massimo Carasi.
