Paolo Cavinato Direzioni's exhibition, curated by Cinzia Compalati, opens on Saturday 15 June at 6.30 pm at the mudaC|museo delle arti Carrara, as part of White Carrara 2024 – Design is back – visual arts section.
In recent years Paolo Cavinato's artistic research has developed through various disciplines, using techniques and languages of art: photography, drawings, graphic elaborations, large installations, sculptural objects. The characteristic elements regarding perspective, empty space, points of view and the relationship between finite and infinite recur as main milestones. Some of his works, designed and created in relation to the surrounding space, are complex constructions of visual and sound elements, in which the public can enjoy the interior. Sculptural elements, sounds and vocal performances, fused together to form a complex immersive experience of space. The artist is always attracted by the intrinsic possibilities of human thought, for its uniqueness and distinction. Just as the "different" gaze becomes active and critical, the installations aim to offer different angles and observation points, starting from themselves to go to a possible elsewhere, in a continuous exchange between inside and outside.
Using a maieutic approach, Cavinato seems to straighten out the lines of that labyrinth and offer us a pre-ordered world in which the artist has had the role of demiurge. Via works from museums and recent works including Solaris#5 produced site-specifically for the mudaC, the exhibition offers the opportunity to enter directly in contact with the artist’s production, allowing space for new visions, thresholds, limits and perspectives. The museum itself (housed in a 17th-century convent with a cloister in the centre which acts as its fulcrum) becomes a place for experimentation, a space for the coming together of the unreal, the perceived and the improbable, transforming or evolving the common concept of reality, accompanying us on the discovery of an inner world in which, once the chaos has been ordered, we feel at home. Really. The works conjoin empty and filled, accessible or illusory spaces, geometric or anthropised forms. Cavinato avoids categorisation, finding his expression in a unique visual language which combines painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, set-design and music. Paolo explores space and time, the inner and the outer stimulating us to investigate the limits and potential of our relationship with the world around us, and to increase our awareness of antithetic themes such as body and mind, nature and artifice. His installations provoke wonder and disquiet, shedding doubt on every certainty and spurring us on to face up to complexity.
